Dill Hercules is a delicate, aromatic variety. The volume of green mass is an indicator that distinguishes it from other varieties. Therefore, herbaceous crop is often used commercially.

Description of the variety of dill Hercules

Dill Hercules is a bush variety. Refers to medium early types. Full ripening occurs 40-45 days after planting. The culture blooms on day 70. The plant is powerful, semi-spreading, not prone to lodging. Erect leaf rosette. Height 20-25 cm.

The leaves are large, bright green with a slight waxy sheen. The form is strongly dissected. The aroma is strong due to the high content of essential oils. The greens are tender, the taste is pleasant.

Hercules are used for canning, salting vegetables, making seasonings. Perfect for growing green mass. Blooms late, can be sown throughout summer. The bush variety is grown in open-air beds or in greenhouses.

Important! Dill shoots Hercules are able to grow back soon after pruning.

Dill Hercules grows rapidly. A little more than a month passes from sowing seeds to harvesting. They are harvested when the plant reaches 20-25 cm. When planted in open ground, yield from 1 sq. m averages 1-1.5 kg. In greenhouse conditions, this figure is 2.5 kg per 1 sq. m.

The yield of dill Hercules is significantly influenced by the soil, as well as the method of cultivation. Under favorable conditions, regular watering, fertilization, lighting and a temperature of + 18-20 ° C, you can get from 3.5 kg per 1 sq. m.

Important! Dill of the Hercules variety is a cold-tolerant plant, therefore, a slight cold snap will not significantly affect the yield.

Dill Hercules grows poorly in the absence of rainfall. With prolonged drought, the plant turns yellow and dies. The temperature regime is no less important for a fragrant culture: indicators - 5 ° С and below or above + 30 ° С will be critical.

The variety is not susceptible to attacks by harmful pests. Fungal diseases are rare in the plant.

Advantages and disadvantages

Dill Hercules is a fruitful variety. If the spring is early and warm, then gardeners can expect a good result. The abundance of green mass makes this variety attractive for commercial cultivation in various volumes.

Strengths of the Hercules variety:

  • marketable condition;
  • endurance;
  • universal application;
  • rich aroma;
  • disease resistance.

Disadvantages of dill are the short shelf life of fresh herbs.

Landing rules

It will feel ideal in light loam, cultivated sandy loam soil, in neutral black soil. Dill Hercules responds well to loose fertile land. Acidic environment does not accept. To obtain a nutrient medium, fertilizers are applied. Norms for 1 sq. m. area:

  • humus - 3 kg;
  • potassium salt - 18-20g;
  • superphosphate - 25 g.

An important component of high yields is the presence of sunlight. The fragrant plant should be planted in open areas. In partial shade, the bushes will be smaller.

Sowing seeds of dill Hercules, as a rule, is carried out in April or May. Gardeners advise planting multiple times at intervals of 10-14 days. They are sown in damp ground. The seeds are laid out in shallow beards at a distance of 4-5 cm. The rows are spaced 20-25 cm apart. Such gaps must be made, since lateral branches do not form on the plants due to dense planting, but internodes are extended. Before the first seedlings appear, it is advisable to cover the bed with agrofibre.

The time when the first shoots appear varies from 1-2 weeks, it all depends on the weather conditions. After another week, young dill must be thinned out, leaving 15-20 cm between the plants.

Important! Consumption of dill seeds Hercules per 1 sq. area on average is 25-30 g.

Growing technology

Caring for the Hercules dill variety is quite simple.

  • First, it needs to be watered regularly, but not overfilled. For 1 sq. m will require 5 liters of water. The procedure is carried out 1 time in 2-3 days. If it's hot outside, then the frequency of humidification will need to be increased.
  • Secondly, timely loosening of row spacings and removal of weeds. A dense crust on the ground does not allow oxygen to pass through, so the plant cannot fully develop. Weed grass creates shade and also sucks nutrients out of the ground.
  • Thirdly, feeding. During the growing season, experienced gardeners recommend watering dill Hercules with potassium-phosphorus preparations.

Advice! So that Hercules dill does not suffer in the spring, it is advisable to cover it overnight.

Diseases and pests

The photo shows healthy dill Hercules. Pests did not like it.

But fungal diseases sometimes prevail. May disturb the plant:

  • powdery mildew - a white, cobweb-like coating that covers the leaves;
  • phomosis - oblong spots of a dark shade, occur mainly on the leaves, stems and even on the roots;
  • black leg - darkens, rots, the root collar of seedlings becomes softer;
  • peronosporosis - in terms of spring symptoms, the disease resembles powdery mildew.

There is no point in fighting the disease of dill. It is not recommended to use chemical preparations due to the use of fresh dill. Treatment of seeds with disinfectants before planting will be more effective and safer. You can leave the seed in a solution of potassium permanganate for a couple of hours, or use biostimulants.

Dill Hercules is a bush variety. It is grown in greenhouse conditions or in the open field. The plant is able to withstand minor frosts. Suitable for cultivation for sale.

Reviews of dill Hercules

Alla Nikolaevna, 39 years old, Vladimir

I don't eat fresh dill, but I harvest a lot for the winter. For freezing, I finely cut the greens and pack them in plastic bags. It is more convenient to make small portions. The description indicates that this way the product can be stored in the freezer for up to 5 months, but I have it until the next harvest. I recommend the variety to everyone.

Irina Olegovna, 33 years old, Tula

I have been planting dill Hercules in my summer cottage for 3 years in a row. The variety is good, the greens are powerful and juicy. It sprouts, as a rule, amicably, in a row it stands like a "bristle". Cover with foil at night so as not to freeze. Water every other day. Our greenery does not have time to grow up to 25-30 cm. We pull it out very young. As soon as it has grown to 15 cm. I prefer to dry greens for preparations for the winter. I lay out Hercules on a tray or paper outdoors. It dries quickly in the heat. Then I chop and chop the seasoning into a glass jar. Good variety, fruitful.
