Bradina is often called the Iva Goat. This plant belongs to the Willow family, is found in Europe, excluding alpine forests and tundra. You can meet willow on the hillsides, forest edges, wastelands, along roads, among shrubs, in light forests, quarries, and gravel pits. He also likes to grow along ponds in spruce forests and in deciduous forests located on moist, fresh fertile soils.

General description and decorative properties of goat willow

The ravine is a small-sized (3-6 m) deciduous tree or shrub whose root system is densely branched and flat spread. It grows very fast. It is recommended by specialists for landing for decorative purposes, both in single and group plantings.

Of particular decorative value is spring, summer and autumn. It is good for its crown shape, unusual coloring of shoots, inflorescences and leaves. The branches of the delirium are thick and spreading. The color of the bark is greenish-gray, but with age acquires a red-brown or reddish-olive hue. The leaves of the willow are regular, the shape is from ovoid to lanceolate. Their size reaches 11-13 cm in length and 5-8 cm in width. The color of the leaves is dark green.

Landing and care

The best time for planting a plant is spring or autumn. Willow can be propagated both by seeds and by grafting. It should be borne in mind that willow seeds lose their germination on the tenth day after their maturation, therefore it is recommended to sow immediately after harvest.

As for the care, goat willow loves moist soils, but it grows, oddly enough, even on moderately dry, and even on dry sandy soils. When planting, the choice of calcareous land should be avoided. She has a good haircut, has a high winter hardiness, but she does not need to be covered for the winter. Bredina loves sunlight, and therefore the landing site should be well lit and protected from strong winds. Care for this plant consists only in the timely removal of wild growth, which is formed under the site of vaccination. Also, the tree must be regularly pruned to a height of 30-60 cm.

Types of delirium

One of the most beautiful species of this tree is Willow Goat Pedula. It is a deciduous tree with a tent-like, weeping crown shape. Lives about 30 years, reaching 2-3 meters in height. The leaves are dark green in summer and yellow in the autumn, blooms from April to May. It grows at any soil moisture. It is often used as an ornamental plant for single and group plantings. It is not fastidious to the soil, but requires regular maintenance and plentiful watering. So that the roots of the bush do not rot over time, a thick layer of drainage is thrown into the soil during planting. Although the shrub has high rates of frost resistance, it is still recommended to shelter the stamb for the winter period.

The most difficult thing to take care of willow Pendula is its pruning. If in the first years you do not form a plant, then very quickly its branches will begin to lie on the ground. Already from young seedlings, it is necessary to cut off all the shoots, leaving only 15 cm with one bud that looks to the side or up, but not inside the crown. This is how the decorative shape of the crown is formed in this type of willow.

Mature trees also need to be pruned, but this is done after flowering. The shoots are thus shortened by 2/3 of their length. Due to this, the willow begins to branch well and densely. Over the summer, new shoots easily manage to re-form and look strong and very beautiful.

Weeping goat willow is a very beautiful, spectacular tree with flexible, weeping, twig-shaped shoots that are located on the top of a small trunk height - the stem. With sufficient lighting, a narrow, tent-like crown with shoots that fall to the very ground forms near the shrub. And in the spring, these shoots are also completely covered with fluffy flowers. Weeping goat willow looks great against the background of plants that have a different shade of foliage, and therefore are often used in group plantings at the turns of garden paths.

Spherical goat willow has dwarf forms, but its main value lies in a spherical crown and extraordinary shoots hanging down.

This type of willow grows very quickly, it is used for planting in parks, garden plots, squares. It also becomes a good material for creating hedges.

Another species of goat willow - Kilmarnock - a standard, miniature plant whose height is 1.5 meters. But it has long, drooping branches that stretch all the way to the ground. The flowers of such a willow are numerous, silvery, have a pleasant smell. This type of delirium is frost-hardy, photophilous, even wind-resistant, unpretentious to the soil, grows on light and loamy substrates with a low lime content.

The use of nonsense

Goat willow bark contains tannins, which are used in leather industry. The bark extract of this plant is used to treat thin skin, which is intended for the manufacture of gloves. Also, the bark has many useful properties and is used in traditional medicine. Decoction from the bark is used for colds, rheumatism, problems with the gall bladder. Also, the decoction can be used to combat stomatitis and gum disease.

Willow goat

Willow bark contains biologically active compounds, such as minerals, glycosides, vitamins, tannins, and flavones. Fresh willow leaves are applied to calluses to eliminate them.

In addition, goat willow wood is used as an ornamental and building material for creating furniture and other household items. Use it as a fuel. Due to its flexibility and strength, willow branches are used to make hedges. Leafy branches are a good feed for livestock, especially sheep and goats.

This plant is considered an excellent honey plant, very valuable for beekeeping. From goat bee willow, they collect pollen, nectar, honey dew, sticky secretions of the kidneys from which propolis is created.

The branches of the delirium during flowering are not rarely used to decorate the premises, and sometimes completely replace the willow at Easter celebrations. From willow rods weave baskets of various shapes and for many purposes. Thin, flexible and resilient branches become an excellent material for creating baskets in which neither berries nor mushrooms will ever be remembered. And vines weave candy cans, bread bins, flower baskets and other kitchen utensils that become a wonderful and practical table decoration. We recommend reading the article on decorative willow.
