The most favorable conditions for young plants are mild weather, sunlight and a minimum of shading. Therefore, it is right to grow turnips in open ground.

Do not be late with thinning, the first must be carried out already at the stage of formation of several real sheets. Thinning is carried out in such a way that between plants there are 3-5 cm of free space. After 2-3 weeks, repeated thinning is performed when all immature and diseased plants are removed from the row, and a landing is formed with spaces up to 8-10 cm.

Particular attention should be paid to watering during the growing season and a few weeks before the harvest, since at this stage the fruit and its qualities are actively formed.

Harvesting turnips in the country

Harvesting is carried out in several stages and depending on how you grow turnips, for an early or late harvest.

Root crops with a diameter of 7-10 cm are considered most suitable, but earlier harvesting is possible when the turnip reaches a diameter of 4-5 cm. If harvesting is late, do not tighten it to frost, since even the slightest step towards negative temperatures makes the fruits soft and not particularly tasty. Moreover, in this condition they will not be able to be stored for long.

Plants are removed from the soil without much effort, just by hand. Sometimes you can dig up turnips so as not to damage the adult fetus. At the same time, diseased pests and diseased plants go to waste, but the highest quality crop is cleaned of leaves and land, dried in the fresh air and placed in a dry, cool and dark storage.

When harvesting, try not to damage the skin on the root crops, as this may affect further storage negatively!

If turnips were grown in a favorable climate and in compliance with all agricultural conditions, you can get a pretty good crop, up to 3-4 kg per square meter of planting.
